You can find that resolution with proper font advances, particularly Clear Type: the idea of readability of the screen has moved forward in a major way. | ClearType isn't really a new technology, but a warmed-over old one. Good that it's come back to life, though.... |

| It was new a few years ago. Microsoft has been using it for quite a while now. |

| Gates introduced a video several minutes into the presentation, but it was "blacked out" in this version because of "proprietary" content. I assume it was just one of those humor pieces they often do, but does anyone know? |

BobSmith, actually, ClearType as a technology--the use of subpixels to increase resolution--is not a Microsoft technology. Apple had it very early on with the Apple II.

I wasn't commenting on whether Microsoft had sub pixel technology first or not. I was just saying that Microsoft's ClearType isn't new. They have used it in different products for a few years already.
Also, I have this thing about not trusting Steve Gibson. More than likely he is accurate, but I'd still like to see the sources for his claims that Apple, IBM, Xerox, Honeywell, etc have been using sub pixel technology for years. It seems odd to me that if they other companies had been using it and patenting it (which they would have) that none of them are suing Microsoft for ClearType.
