Microsoft chairman Bill Gates threatens the spirit of freedom, the founder of the free software movement said here even as the world's richest man was on a tour to India.
Richard Stallman said in the Indian capital that Microsoft and Gates -- on a four-day visit to India -- were perpetuating systems that threaten the freedom of computer users.
Stallman was in the city to release his book "No Sir, No Monopoly! Free Software - A Perspective".

Oddly enough, it is ENTIRELY DIFFERENT when Apple gives their junk to schools and then sells PowerSchool or other Mac-only software later.

Richard Stallman threatens my freedom to write code and get paid for it. Someone should put him in jail (and gag him too).

I think Stallman took one too many hits of acid in the 60's.
#9, dkg_ctc, you are so right. To them, the only freedom is their brand of freedom.
...and if one more person uses the "free like in beer/free like in speech" thing again, I'm gonna puke. That's such a damn joke. It's more like "Gee, we want cool stuff, but don't want to pay for it (of all the nerve! to charge for software!), so we'll just steal it, and call it GPL."
All the worst software pirates I know are all linux zealots (but strangely, they have huge selections of MS software (none of it legal.)) It's almost as if they need it around to remind themselves that they're making no difference unless it's illegal.

This is worse than Microsoft calling OSS a cancer.
Tell me, why are these people trying to push free software so much? It makes no sense to me as it's nearly impossible to make any money off this sort of idea, which is kinda like, the ENTIRE basis of the WORLD's economy.
If you ask me, I'd say that Stallman, and people like him, are probably one of the dumbest people in world, and we give them the microphone.

I liked this line, Stu.
"Kulkarni said he could not find enough software programs or programmers for Linux, the standard-bearer of the free, open-source operating systems."

FW, if I have the source code to a project and can compile it, then it is free, is it not? Do you want to explain the difference between free and free to me?

300 Million? I highly doubt it. I doubt 300 million ppl have even heard of Linux.

10x more Linux users than OS X users? That's funny whether it is true or not.

If there are 30 million Mac users (and I highly doubt that), then there are about 1.5 billion Windows users. Actually there would have to be more, since Mac doesn't even have 2% market share.

parker, why do the second two links not mention Windows XP ? For IE 6 to have such a large market share, you can bet a good chunk of that came from Windows XP users.

I thought that they might be lumping Windows XP with Windows 2000 too. I think that'd be really silly to do though.
