All great dynasties must come to an end sometime—and so it passes that Sony's MLB series, after seven incarnations and 1.5 million or so games sold, will leave the original PlayStation and set up shop permanently on the PS2 for the 2003 season. There's no point in shedding a tear for the past, though—not when the new MLB's so close to getting released, after all.
Sony Computer Entertainment sent out the first concrete information (not to mention some fine-looking screenshots) on MLB 2004 earlier today, their first PlayStation 2 baseball title in, well, ever. Besides the obvious graphic enhancements--100% real player faces, all major league stadiums, that sort of thing--the new game will include 12 gameplay modes, including both player-career and general manager simulations. The Total Control Pitching and Batting from 2003 is back, too, giving both sides pinpoint control over where they aim and where the ball lands.
