Sendo, Britain's only mobile phone manufacturer, has dumped Microsoft as software provider for its main product - a web-enabled multimedia handset - just days before it was due to launch. Sendo was a key partner in Microsoft's so-called Smartphone programme, and even sold a small equity stake to the software firm, but their jointly-devised Z100 handset will now be ditched. | ||

Becker, we don't understand what you're saying. Nokia and the Symbian Alliance are also software vendors; we know it's a good idea for the phone manufacturers to use this software--it's cheaper, based on open standards, can be modified to the licensees content, etc..
From the POV of a phone manufacturer, it appears to be a bad idea to sign on with MS. Sendo was one of the only ones; they've delayed for a year already; and they are abandoning iit just when it was to be launched--something gave them a bad feeling about it. No one has said we don't like the idea of people buying software from somewhere... all we've done is question the quality and intentions of MS's version. |

Apparently there is something going on between the two companies.
Sendo had been working on this project for a long time, and for some reason, they couldn't get the device to run properly ...run into many delays where as HTC with there Orange device managed to put the device with out any problems. Sendo wants access to the codes, and wants to customized the OS ...the OS is ready, and all what Sendo had to do was add their name / logo / additional software they want on the phone ...but somehow they want more. |

HailStorm ...I thought about Cingular because I knew they were going to release this product. Well I guess Cingular has to find another SmartPhone ...which I think it wouldn't be a problem at all.
I guess this is the reason why Cingular was quiet about Sendo because of all the delays ...and the fact that they couldn't confirm a release date for the device. I don't think this is a big loss for Microsoft at all ...if any, Sendo loss valuable time and money on this project. |
