Microsoft's rivals said they would seek tighter limits on the world's largest software company after a US federal judge approved most of its antitrust settlement with the Justice Department. US District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly approved the agreement Friday (US time) but made a few minor changes that require acceptance by Microsoft and the government. She rejected arguments by nine states that tougher sanctions were essential to restore competition in the computer industry. | ||

arkansas - OS/2 only runs on ATM machines built prior to about 2-3 years ago. The newer ATM machines are running Windows NT.
Many of them are also nothing more than front end web browsers of sorts, allowing the bank to change the content easily at the server. |

i agree neb okla. orcl, sunw dont want to compete on a level playing field. they want it tilted in their favor. Judge KK said as much about Sun in the settlement approval.
arkansas - you are incorrect about ibm not making money. they are making plenty of money. THAT is why they have embraced Linux... because it falls into the "give it away for free, and charge charge charge for service" stategy that ibm made famous in the 70's. ibm can lead a fool to free water... and then charge the fool for the glass for the next 15 years. |

FW, what line of business is IBM in? Hardware, software, consulting. What line of business is Microsoft in? Software, consulting. Which company is making more money? Microsoft. Does IBM care what Microsoft does? You bet they do.
A few corrections of your post... "Websphere is holding its own with .NET" What does that mean? Do you mean that Websphere is holding its on in terms of sales with Windows .NET Server 2003 which hasn't even been released yet? Do you mean, J2EE solutions which run on Websphere, are holding there own with .NET solutions which run on Windows servers? You aren't too clear here. "Linux holding its own is servers" I assume you meant to say in servers. I wonder how much profit IBM has from its Linux servers compared to how much Microsoft has made from Windows servers. As for where they compete, I've already addressed that. Here are two HUGE ones that you missed though. DB2 vs SQL Server. Lotous Notes/Domino vs Exchange. IBM competes with Microsoft just about everywhere Microsoft does business. |
