Microsoft has received a mixed response from resellers after it signalled a toughened stance on licence compliance in a controversial letter sent to its partners. The software giant has been criticised as lacking subtlety by resellers which are angry that the letter implied a possible involvement in selling unlicensed software. | ||

I understand that what was quoted may not have been the entire contents of the letter. However, the quoted portion is factual and doesn't imply that the system builder is a pirate. It is a form letter warning builders that "Some" system builders resort to piracy to sell more systems, and that a system builder should be careful about buying products from non-certified distributors. It also acts as a warning to vendors that think that MS will never find out if they are using pirated software.
This is just like the press release MS made concerning IT admins needing to take better action with regards to securing servers. The information is factual, but someone always takes it personally. If the information doesn't apply to you, you shouldn't worry about it or take it personally. |

| I'd like to see the full letter. If you are an honest builder, why would this worry you? If you are honest, it stands to reason that you'd be grateful to Microsoft for trying to stop the piracy. If nobody is pirating, undercutting system prices by pirating will be less possible making your prices more competitive. |
