So I wanted to know if I could use this on all of my computers at home with my prexisting ISP (roadrunner). So I contacted MSN's support team. Here is the conversation that followed that I thought I would share with you guys.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Question: Can I order the new MSN 8 and install it on all of our computers at home for the prepaid 80 dollars a year?
( Ben Edwards has joined )
( Cheryll has joined )
Ben Edwards: hi cheryll
Cheryll: Hi Ben . Welcome to MSN Interactive Online Support. My name is Cheryll, your Online Support representative for this day.
Cheryll: I understand that you wish to have MSN 8 to intsal in your computer, Ben. Please give me a minute while I check into this.
Ben Edwards: i am curious how the pricing for the new msn 8 will work
Ben Edwards: we would be going with cable service(broadband) and I am interested in the software only version of msn 8
Ben Edwards: would the subscription allow me to install and use the software on multiple computers?
Ben Edwards: we have four computers at home and I would like each of them to have access to the software. There are 5 people in the family that would use these 4 computers and I would like to set them up on each computer.
Cheryll: Thank you for waiting, Ben. I would like to inform you that MSN will be launch on October 24, 2002. If you are currently MSN IA subceriber, there would be no charge for this however, if you are using MSN Explorer, you will be charged with $9.95 per month.
Ben Edwards: right
Ben Edwards: is that 9.95 a month for the whole household?
Ben Edwards: or just for one computer?
Ben Edwards: of just for one user?

Cheryll: It will be for just one computer, Ben.
Ben Edwards: so if I wanted to install this software on 4 computers
Ben Edwards: how much would that cost?
Cheryll: If you wish to use it for multiple computers, you have to order those MSN 8 CD for each of it.
Ben Edwards: so how much are the cds?
Ben Edwards: is it just ordering the cds and then paying the 9.95 a month?
Cheryll: Yes, Ben.
Ben Edwards: or would it be 9.95 a month X 4?
Ben Edwards: which would mean 39.80 a month to run on 4 computers
Ben Edwards: is that correct?
Cheryll: Since you will use it for 4 computers, you will pay for $39.8.
Ben Edwards: well
Ben Edwards: I have looked at the software
Ben Edwards: and would like to use it
Ben Edwards: but that is just too much to ask for per month
Ben Edwards: is this final what you are telling me?
Ben Edwards: that would cost me more than my broadband connection
Ben Edwards: which doesn't make any sense at all
Cheryll: If you wish to have those CD, you may order it to our phone support agents. Please call our customer service Phone Support at 1-800-386-5550 then press 1 2 for direct connection.
Ben Edwards: ok
Ben Edwards: one last question
Cheryll: What is it, Ben?
Ben Edwards: If I were to order msn broadband
Ben Edwards: does that come with msn 8?
Cheryll: Yes, Ben.
Ben Edwards: so that msn 8 is that good for only one computer?
Ben Edwards: or could i install it on each computer in the house?
Cheryll: You can install it in every computer but please be reminded that it is not possible to access it simultaneously. You have to access it one at a time, Ben.
Ben Edwards: with the broadband connection we share the internet connection at the same time utilizing a microsoft wireless access point
Ben Edwards: so we would be using the software at the same time
Cheryll: I apologize but it seems that this issue needs a technical answer and in this case, I will refer you to our online technical support agent to provide you best assistance tho this issue.
Cheryll: I will be sending you a link to our online technical support agents. Just click on the link and please fill up the necessary information on it so our technical support team will properly assist you with this issue.

I was then forwarded to a different webpage and started talking with Tim the tech. Here is that conversation:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
uestion: Can I order the new MSN 8 and install it on all of our computers at home for the prepaid 80 dollars a year?
( Ben Edwards has joined )
( Tim has joined )
Ben Edwards: hey tim
Ben Edwards: i was forwarded from the billing people
Tim: Thank you Ben, for using MSN Interactive Online Support. My name is Tim , I will be your Online Technical Support Engineer.
Ben Edwards: i will copy and paste what was said already
Tim: Hello Ben. I look forward to assisting you.
<removed for brevity see above>
Tim: I understand that you want to know how to share the connection once you install MSN 8 on four computers.
Ben Edwards: I know how to share the connections
Ben Edwards: thats not a problem
Ben Edwards: I am just curious how much it will cost
Ben Edwards: cheryl said that if I went the software only route for msn 8 I would need to pay 40 bucks a month for 4 computers
Tim: Are you an MSN subscriber?
Ben Edwards: but if I did MSN broadband it would be included with the cost of the broadband but I wouldnt be able to use the software simultaneously on teh computer
Ben Edwards: which doesn't make much sense for me
Ben Edwards: not currently a subsciber but looking to subscribe to msn 8
Ben Edwards: if the price is reasonable
Tim: Ben if you are a subscriber the software is free of cost.
Ben Edwards: for as many computers as there are in my house?
Tim: Please allow me a moment.
Ben Edwards: so that is to say if I sign up for msn broadband I can setup the msn 8 software in each computer in my house (4 total) and use the software simultaneously on each computer?
Ben Edwards: utilizing the shared broadband connection?
Tim: THank you for your patience.
Ben Edwards: i also have a question about the software with a different provider, so say I have a desktop computer and laptop computer. I only use one or the other. Is the software good for laptop + desktop?
Ben Edwards: no problem
Tim: If you sign up for the broad band connection through MSN you can install the MSN 8 software on 4 computers.
Tim: You will be using one primary account.
Ben Edwards: ok

Tim: You can use the software on a laptop as well as on a desktop.
Ben Edwards: and with that I get 9 separate subaccounts if I read correctly?
Tim: Yes that is correct, with one primary account you can get 8 free accounts through MSN .
Ben Edwards: so this would me mean I could setup a max of 9 logins with the subscription
Ben Edwards: so If I subscribe software only, then that is only good for one computer?
Ben Edwards: and I couldn't my existing broadband provider
Ben Edwards: (use)
Tim: If you subscribre through MSN you can use the same software on 4 computers. You can connect with the same address , but not simultaneously.
Ben Edwards: not simultaneously?
Ben Edwards: why wouldn't I be able to use the software simultaneously?
Tim: You will not be able to connect to the internet at the same time with the same email address.
Ben Edwards: ohhh
Ben Edwards: so If say mom uses her account, sis uses her account, and dad uses his account, they will all be able to use the software simultaneously?
Tim: Ben, you will be using one paying account to connect. You will not be able to connect one 4 computers with the same paying account.
Ben Edwards: huh?
Tim: Ben, you will be installing MSN 8 on 4 computers. You will use your msn account to connect to the internet. If you are connecting to the interne with the account on one system, you cannot connect to the internet with the same paying account on the other system at the same time.
Ben Edwards: you are talking about a broadband connection right?
Tim: I am referring to a normal dialup connection.
Ben Edwards: ok
Ben Edwards: lets talk about broadband
Ben Edwards: I understand you cant dialup more than once
Ben Edwards: I have an existing broadband connection
Tim: Is it a non msn connection?

Ben Edwards: I want to use this software with four separate computer sharing a broadband connection
Ben Edwards: right now yes
Ben Edwards: all of these computers are on and use the internet at the same time
Tim: If you subscribe for MSN Broadband, you will have to share the connection and you will be able to use the software on 4 systems.
Ben Edwards: ok
Ben Edwards: we went throught that already
Ben Edwards: thats a go
Ben Edwards: can I do the same thing with my pre existing isp
Ben Edwards: my non msn isp?
Tim: No you cannot use MSN 8 with your pre existing ISP.
Ben Edwards: really?
Ben Edwards: http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/byoa tells me I can
Tim: Ben, I am not authorized to provide any information on MSN 8.
Ben Edwards: lol
Ben Edwards: then why am I wasting my team with you?
Ben Edwards: time
Ben Edwards: who can answer my questions?
Ben Edwards: you there tim?
Ben Edwards: tim who do I need to contact to answer these questions on msn 8?
Ben Edwards: who can I speak with that is authorized for MSN 8?
Ben Edwards: survey not looking so good for you right now tim
Ben Edwards: well thanks for your time tim
Ben Edwards: I suggest you guys have a pow wow and get this figured out before you launch on thursday.
Ben Edwards: bye time

So basically I still don't know the answer to my original question. If anyone has any info please let me know. I would love to install the software and 10 bucks a month seems a little steep to me for 1 computer but perfect for a family situation. 40 bucks a month is a complete no go.

Just updated? MSN 8 is services offering. Some of the services - like BillPay - are very compelling.

I just installed the full MSN8 about 16?.00 MB's and now finally I got the new customer option. I chose the option to use my ISP for about $30.00 month and it let go through. I will try this out for 30 days and if I am satisfied I will keep it, but if not I will cancel.
belto...
ps. I live in Budpaest, Hungary by the way.

I've installed MSN 8 last night without any hitch. Granted I've been using the $9.95 access for sometime now (w/ my own broadband access), but the installation just brought me directly to the new login interface ...didn't ask me for anything other than accepting the license agreement.

#19 & 23 That is not entirely true. For the most part you are right when it comes to dial-up, but if you have a wireless broadband network setup in your home you can log on with two or more accounts at the same time. This is something new that AOL is doing but of course they charge you an hourly fee. It only works if you are all sharing a broadband access.

I've installed MSN 5.0 a few days ago from another site, and when I updated my MSN 8 this evening, it prompted me to download the latest version of MSN 5.0 (5.0.0537).
