Intel Corp. will maintain its overwhelming lead in the desktop PC processor market in 2002, but the chip giant could face tougher competition against Advanced Micro Devices Inc. in 2003, according to a report from In-Stat/MDR here today.
At the same time, In-Stat/MDR projects the worldwide PC market will grow only 1% in 2002, but will rebound to 13% in 2003. The rebound should be driven by new product announcements, such as Intel's “Banias” mobile and “Prescott” desktop processors and AMD's Hammer family of 32/64-bit chips.
