Customers expecting to move to Microsoft's next operating system as part of their new licensing agreement may be disappointed, analysts warn. Microsoft's roadmap calls for the next release of Windows - codenamed 'Longhorn' - to appear in the second half of 2004. But Microsoft now wants to add more functionality to the release, and analysts are warning that this could delay the shipping date. | ||

I could care less... I'm still trying to figure out XP.
BTW, WinPE is pretty damn cool! So is sysprep. |

| HomerS - Agreed. I mean, we can install XP and use it. But we're digging into more detail on issues relating to automated unattended deployment, managing MSI(windows installer) packages, etc. |

Don't forget ie.net, and framework 2.0 supported in the OS. Possible a preview of the new FS and part of the new UI. Quite possibly the next version of GDI+ that is accelerated by Direct X. maybe some of the managed platform API. So many things they could throw in there to get the base of the framework in a format to allow developers to start playing with some of the features in Longhorn. El |

Actually I don't see an issue.
They are getting windows.net, office 11, and several other upgrades I can't mention over the next 2 years. Although I see Software Assurance 6.0 being extended to a 5 year cycle. And greatly reduced in price. As it stands now. most corp users are looking at changing in 3 years anyway. Especially if MS maintains its present direction. El |
