Junk mail evades Hotmail filter | |

Hotmail users are irked at a loophole in Hotmail's anti-spam technology which makes them unable to block messages from certain senders. Spammers sending unsolicited emails from staff@somwhere.something are sailing past defences because addresses prefixed by staff can't be blocked by Hotmail's filter, Reg readers inform us. It's a minor irritation, for now, and not something addressed by Hotmail's partnership with spam filtering specialist Brightmail. Brightmail is yet to respond to our requests for comment on the issue but in the interests of fairness we note that its partnership with Hotmail aims to reduce - not eliminate - the amount of spam received by Hotmail users receive. This is reaching epidemic proportions. | ||

| What really is an issue, is that MS is not attempting to block spam at all. I get a ton of spam, and my account is set to exclusive. This issue needs to be fixed. |

| Take a look at my bulk mail folder if you don't believe it, daz. I get about 200 there per week. It looks like filtering to me. |

Spam filters are notoriously bad. I was trying to work with a vendor this past week and his email kept getting dropped into the black hole by our spam filters at work.

Interestingly, I have cut down on the amount of spam I recieve so that I only get about 1 spam every 2 weeks.
I put in custom filters:35 of them to be exact I made a list of 250 blocked addresses. Now, my account is great and I don't care about whatever MS does with new spam technology because putting in the filters and blocking known spam addresses saves me from getting any spam. But it would have been nice if they had done something like this years ago. |

| I have been running Exlcusive filters on 4 Hotmail accounts, and set the options to NEVER let the junk mail hit my junk box. NEVER get a single spam. |

| #13, My hotmail account I've never used for anything except as a passport for MSN Messenger, MSDN, Betaplace. I get several hundred SPAM e-mails a week even though I have them sent directly to Junk Mail. |

#13 - Did you use a common word or name to create your account?
I had Caesar256 and was getting 100 spam a day. I just created redhead507, and we'll see if this one fares better. |
