I think Mr. author needs to check his calendar. If Longhorn is released by the end of 2004, that is only two years from now. If it doesn't get released till partway into 2005, that is only a litte over two years from now. In five years time, we'll be nearly to 2008. I highly doubt that in two to three years time Linux is going to do anything in the desktop space. Past history doesn't always imply future performance, but if the past tells us anything it is that the desktop is safe in the hands of Windows for a long time to come.
