Have you ever wondered what operating system you will be using in 2005? Australian tech writer Andrew Parsons investigates the future of Windows, code named Longhorn. As a developer, not only do you need to look at what platforms are out there right now, but what has been available in the past and what might be in the future. The stuff in the past is important because designing an application for say Windows XP without regard for previous versions of Windows dramatically reduces your target audience when with a (usually) minimal amount of effort you can support older versions as well. | ||

2. false, the OSX UI while it looks pretty is pretty lousy 3. false, x86 processors are much faster... This isn't a confusion over Mhz, this is pure speed. 4. A community that does nothing but sit around whining about how evil everybody else is? Thank you, no. As far as a developer migration to OS-X. Do they have anything similar to .NET. What about message queuing?(i.e. MQSeries) transaction management? easy database objects such as ADO? If not why do you seriously think developers are going to move to it? The sad thing about most Mac and Linux proponents is that they are still living in the 1980's. |

1) uh huh... you just can't beat 25+ year old technology... 2) It may look pretty, but it's like operating a fish. 3) It's never a good idea to quote the company trying to make you believe their side of the story as a "source". It's usually a pretty safe bet that no company is going to write something that says their product is sub-standard. 4) I know people in the Mac community... you must be using a definition of "activated" that I'm not yet familiar with. | "Activated" Oh yeah, the mac fans are so "active" they riot against apple in their forums to such a degree that the moderators take the board down. Yep, macosx.com took down its boards for a whole day in protest of all the mac fans who were COMPLAINING about how apple was treating them. That's some platform loyalty. |

If you're so worried about not being able to steal things, then go for it. DRM won't do anything except make it harder to steal IP from those who can have it legally. If you're supposed to have access to something, you will; if not, you won't. It's that simple. |

| The Apple Way allowed you to download any file, software or otherwise onto the original iPod, so people were walking into CompUSA and pirating anything they wanted off of the display models. And people wonder why DRM and other safeguards appeal to software makers... |

$24... you are truly out of touch. Apple stole that GUI from Xerox. And guess what else, Apple didn't invent wireless technology (airport) and they didn't invent the flat screen either.
Best I can figure, all they've ever truly INVENTED was how to sell colored plastic at a 600% markup. |

There are users here, CPUGUY, SODABLUE who are intelligent, and who actually have valid reasons for there high count numbers because they post well thoughtout arguments and they know what there talking about. I'm sorry but if I see another trolling Mac vs. PC argument then I am going to just forget reading you're posts. Get some facts, come back here and debate your points with knowledge and information.
