What you are about to read is a true story. China thinks Microsoft software contains secretly embedded code that the United States government can manipulate at will. So, in case of war between the two countries, a Pentagon official can hit a switch and--presto!--cripple China's computing infrastructure. A senior Microsoft executive, who often confers with the Chinese (sorry, no names), told me this tale. I thought he was joking. | ||

This is a new low for ZDNet.
I mean, I knew they were unprofessional and had no journalistic integrity, but to print unsubstantiated crap like this puts it right down there with the Enquirer. I mean, at least rags like th NYTimes have the professionalism to say, "Confidential sources in Microsoft report..." rather than following the trailer-park-anecdotal methodology of "I knew this guy who knew this guy who said...". However, in the 6th paragraph, it becomes clear what the point of the placement of this story is for: Promoting Linux. Planting FUD against MS and promoting Linux as the "Saving Grace". |

I agree XML... Let's take a look... This is "COMMENTARY" for one; two, he does cite a Microsoft source for the story; three, he himself finds it irrational but understands the paranoia; four, he uses this understood paranoia to provide some commentary about how in China and other parts of the world, there is a leaning towards supporting Linux because these countries are tired of Microsoft.
OH MY GOD, how can they get away with such lies!!?? Come on people. Accept it, Microsoft has. It's just goes with the territory. rawprr - yeah the moderation system on slashdot stinks.
There was one week where it was broken, and suddenly everybody had like unlimited moderation points. It was the one week where the moderation system actually worked well. The worst is that the /. editors frequently go through and moderate posts down which disagree with teh sites bias. I've had that happen to me a couple of times. |
