I think we all remember sept 11,20001 all to well. What a tragic day it was.

I just want to thank activewin for their trustworthy reporting of the news on that day, when cnn.com went down and you couldn't find any of the news sites to be up and running. I kept checking activewin all day and you guys did a great job in getting the news out.

"I will not say do not weep; For not all tears are an evil." -Gandalf

Today is a day of rememberance. Talk with loved ones, and be greatful that life continues. Extend sympathy to those most hurt. Remember always. Evil men may do terrible things, but great men can do what the evil cannot: love.

Thanks to AW for all the info you posted on that terrible day.

Interesting reading the reports of that day. What about the planes that supposedly crashed into Camp David? I'd never heard that before, even on that day.

Also, while it's good to remember and honor the dead, I'm really sick of everyone crying and moaning about everything while nothing is being done to prevent further attacks.

We got punched in the groin really hard, we threw a tiny jab back, but now we're hunched over and crying waiting for another punch.

Homeland security is a joke. You're NOT going to prevent things like 9/11 unless you become a complete police state and no one will allow out. You must take out this evil at its source.

I hate how people talk about patriotism, honor, and resolve, and then doubt whether we should go into Iraq, or start putting pressure on Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Islamic fundamentalists are our enemy and our efforts to be "compassionate" have only made us weak and vulnerable.

I respect the muslims in this country, but your loyalty has been called into question. Just like in WWII, Japanese Americans took it upon themselves to form a special air force fighter wing to serve against Japan to prove to the American people that Japanese Americans are honorable and loyal to America. Yes, it was tragic about the internment camps.

But I think we're so worried about doing something like that to Muslims, that we don't acknowledge that there ARE some islamic fundamentalists LIVING IN AMERICA! One estimate put it at 5,000! All I have heard from Muslims in America is that we shouldn't pick on them. Not that they condemn the attacks, not that they think these fundamentialists are whacko. In fact, they defend Osama Bin Laden most of the time! You really need to come out either for or against America to show everyone who you really are. If you have honor, you will do this. Only a coward hides his true motives and loyalties.

There needs to be more pressue on Muslim countries to prevent fanaticism like this. In Saudia Arabia, they teach it in their text books and set up special areas and provisions for the Whabiists (ultra-fanatics, most of the 9/11 terrorists came from this sect). This is COMPLETELY unacceptable.

And for all the Europeans who don't support the US, this could be you next. This was an attack on all free countries, not just America. You'd be foolish to ignore this problem. In fact, most of you are foolish because you HAVE been ignoring it. France has been providing arms and information to Iraq for some time in violation of the Embargo. This is unacceptable!

Daz, I actually heard that on the news that day, and so did Byron. When it later turned out to be falsed, we stated that in the stories I linked to tdoay. There were some guesses on where that one hijacked airliner was going before it crashed. Being only about 35 minutes from Somerset, PA I can tell you that Camp David is only a very small distance away by plane (I'm looking at sectional maps used by pilots).

daz - "I hate how people talk about patriotism, honor, and resolve, and then doubt whether we should go into Iraq, or start putting pressure on Iran and Saudi Arabia. "

That's too bad. One of the fundamental tenants of our nation, embodied in the First Amendment is that the citizenry has a right to ask questions of the Government and be involved in decisions which may effect their life and property.

I personally find your language and suggestions that Americans should not engage in a debate to be a terrible dishonor to all of those ancestors of ours who fought to secure the rights and freedoms that we enjoy and take for granted today.

Perhaps you should stop and consider that it is this attitude of the end justifying the means, whereby you turn to terrorism to fight terrorism that ends up promoting terrorism. Rather, consider that perhaps we need to be stronger advocacates for what this nations true values are. When events like this occur:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/1874471.stm

We need to intelligently and thoughtfully explain why something like this could not happen in the United States because we value religious freedom. When people like Jerry Falwell call for the US to impose the same type of religious theocracy that Saudi Arabia suffers from, we point him out for a fool, so that others outside our nation do not believe he speaks for us.

We also need to stop hiding from international criticism, but instead vigorously stand up and defend our positions. You talk of strength, but I say avoiding the criticism makes us look weak and makes our leaders look like fools.

#15: You make good points, but you're distracting the point.

I'm not saying that detractors should be shot. It's the intention behind the words that I'm afraid of.

If someone said, "We must do something about this problem, and we must find where the evil lies and attack it there. Are we sure evil lives in Iraq?"

That's a valid question. However, there are people suggesting that we not do anything, or accusing the US of being evil for trying to do such things. That I think is very wrong. These people are clueless and don't understand the danger the US and they themselves are in.

Their debate and their lack of resolve threatens my liberty and my family's life. Therefore, I have a vested interest in what they say.

Also, invading Iraq, Iran, or even Saudi Arabia is not terrorism. These countries are run by, essentially, dictators (mostly benevolent in Arabia, though). Comparing US actions to terrorism is horrible and if I were there I'd slap you and tell you to go to hell.

I'm sick of people trying to compare accidental loss of life at the hands of the US to terrorism. If you can't tell the difference, then you are truly devoid of morals.

I'm not talking about preventing people from the first amendment, I'm talking about people who are so scared to offend someone, that they'd rather risk their right to speech than defend it.

daz - Bah, nobody is saying we do nothing. Those against war are advocating for containment and careful monitoring.

Maybe a quote is appropriate here...

"I believe that if we had and would keep our dirty, bloody dollar-crooked fingers out of the businesses of nations so full of depressed, exploited people, they (would) arrive at a solution of their own that they design(ed) and want(ed). Not one crammed down their throat by Americans."

Marine Corps Commandant 1960-1963
Labeled a traitor to his nation for speaking out against US involvement in Vietnam

I don't think that day will ever come sodablue, that the United States keeps itself out of foriegn affairs. So far we've been at it for more than 100 years. I don't see that ever changing.

This guy is an idiot. Heroic and brave, but an idiot. These people are repressed and held down by a dictatorial regieme that rules with an iron fist. They have tried and tried again to revolt and overthrow Sadam, but he is too powerful.

These people are starving and dying of easily treatable problems and diseases while Sadam builds golden palaces and funds research into weapons of mass destruction.

He is a clear and present and immediate danger to the national security of the United States, among just about every other nation in the world. He has on three occasions invaded other countries (Iran in the 80's, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in the 90s), he has used chemical weapons on the Iranians, and the Kurds, and bruttally slaughtered hundreds of innocent Shiites and Kurds in the north and south of Iraq.

We would be freeing the people of Iraq to make their own choices rather than be forced into hunger, poverty, and poor medical attention by Sadam.

http://www.msnbc.com/news/806372.asp?0cl=c3

This Iraq war idea is dead until after the elections. I am highly skeptical of most arguments presented by the Bush administration because they have a history of distortion, embellishment and just plain outright lying in favor of their own power base rather than what is in the best interests of this nation and it's citizenry. The fact that Bush can't even sway many members of the GOP is pretty telling.

For now we need to push for containment and monitoring. If nothing else the talk of war has certainly softened Iraq somewhat and we'll be able to get inspectors back in the country.

#23: How convenient for the Democrats. I'm glad that they put their own political careers before the national security of the nation and the freedom of people around the world.

As far as "Bush's Idea", invading Iraq is not a new idea. Clinton staffers kicked the idea around heavily, especially after the attempted assassination of Bush 41 during his visit to Kuwait in... hrm, I forget the year. Anyhow, right after that, Clinton staffers anguished over the correct response and it was to bomb/cruise missle what turned out to be an aspirin factory, IIRC. Anyhow, it was all during the MonicaGate, so I'm sure part of the decision was based on distraction of the media.

Anyhow, I'll have to dig around and find it, but I had some quotes from a couple high ranking cabinet members making comments about taking out Sadam or invading. There was even discussion of ammending the executive order which prevents American controlled organizations from assassinating foreign leaders.

Regardless of whether or not we invade Iraq, the weapons inspectors (no matter how worthless they really are) MUST be accepted back in. That was the terms of the cease fire in 1991 and Saddam has broken most of the agreements of surrender, so technically, we're still at war with Iraq. Whether or not we persue that militarily will play out.

However, sitting on our hands and waiting for Saddam to nuke or gas our interests or even our homeland is not a good solution.

Containment and monitoring isn't enough. He has proven he can and will use weapons of mass destruction and the evidence is clear and has been clear for many years that he is actively trying to acquire or develop weapons of mass destruction.

#23 And what about Billy? Legally we have a right to attack (23 or so UN resolutions) but Bill Clinton stood idle then the weapons inspectors got kicked out. Bush is doing what Bill Clinton should have done years ago.
