I believe somebody a few days ago said that editorials should be labeled as such. This author's extremely hard to defend position (and one that the article itself certainly doesn't defend) should be labled "Way out on a Limb Microsoft Doomsday Editorial".
It would be wiser for the author to say, since the government's antitrust trial has begun Microsoft's profit margin has decreased. This is a sign of the success of the trial regardless of the trial's outcome. She might then discuss that despite the lower profit margin and the changing climate in the industry (which, incidentally serves to prove Microsoft's contention that there is great competition in the industry) Microsoft is continuing to grow in revenue, products and services. Indeed, the company is expanding its research and development budget and has announced that it is increasing its workforce by roughly 10%. Despite some factors to the contrary, these are signs of a very healthy and stable company.
I guess if she woiuld have written it like that, my title would no longer be appropriate.
