Outlook XP will no longer come free with a Pocket PC | |

...but Outlook 2000 will. There's been some buzz lately about Microsoft pulling Outlook from the Pocket PC bundle. This made no sense to me, or many others, because ActiveSync can only talk to Outlook (perhaps it's more of a mumble). How could Microsoft ship a Pocket PC without a desktop client to sync against? The answer is, they aren't going to. They are, however, going to downgrade the software from Outlook XP to Outlook 2000. Fujitsu-Siemens shipping the Loox with NO version of Outlook was an error on their part. | ||

This makes absolutely ZERO sense.
However, in some ways, Outlook 2000 is a better product. LDAP actually works in Outlook 2000 (MS didn't even write the LDAP Code in 2002), and I like the account management better in Outlook 2000. But, Outlook 2002 makes it easier to work with PST files in non-standard locations. Either way, I can't see the sense behind this move. Not to mention that PocketPC is extremely expensive, and should have the newest products bundled if for no other reason than this. Or, if you read between the lines, maybe this means that corporate acceptance of OfficeXP/Outlook 2002 has not been good, and by including Outlook 2000 it provides better compatibility for corporate clients? | Bah, Outlook XP is a much better product, and it includes the security updates by default. I hope they are least rolling the updates into the CD they are shipping. |

#6 If you use MSN don't you have to switch from POP3 based email service to HTTP based one?
I use MSN but I don't want it to be HTTP based, too unreliable. |
