Microsoft ties XP to the Web | |

Microsoft is extending to Windows XP a new technology that could give the company some control over choosing the Web sites, content and services consumers can access. The feature, known as Smart Tags, would strengthen Microsoft's ability to use proprietary technology to tie its newest applications and operating systems to the Web. "This is another example of Microsoft integrating Internet content into the OS that could benefit them for Internet services," said Gartner analyst Michael Silver. "This is exactly like what Microsoft did in the past with the bundling, where they're leveraging what they have on the desktop into another market where they don't have dominance." | ||

| These articles that are popping are complete BS. They have absolutly no value and do not acuratly describe what the smart tag does. |

| #10 SmartTags are off by default... and if you have a problem with this, YOU seriously have some problems. I don't see why people are so angered by this, maybe because they don't have a clue about what they heck they are. |

I really don't think yall understand what IE's smart tags do, and I really don't think that you are taking the time to READ what the testers (who have USED the product) know about it.
Like I said before, Smart Tags of OFF by default, the user HAS to turn them on themself. Second, when Smart Tags are enabled, if a word or company that is in the smart tag database is on a webpage, it puts a little squigly purple line (which isn't in the way at all), letting you know that you can click that and get a box that has links to information like company news, stock quotes, a link to their site, a price chart and a quick search for the word. This is a VERY unintrusive product that adds a LOT of functionality. Now instead of making incredibly stupid assumptions and hating MS just because it's MS, why don't you pull your heads out of your butt and realize that YOU haven't even seen it yet! |
