Windows .NET Server RC 1 Customer Preview Program Download Available or Isn't It? | |

Thanks Aaron. "Microsoft® Windows® .NET Server Release Candidate 1 is now ready for download! Please read this email carefully and keep a copy so that you will not lose valuable information you need for participating in the Windows .NET Server Customer Preview Program. As a participant in the Windows .NET Server Customer Preview Program, you are entitled to a copy of the Windows .NET Server Release Candidate 1 (RC1). The registration information that you provide at http://cppregister.com/dl will be used to notify you by email when RC2 will be available for download." Although the letters were sent two days ago, it appears the windowsbeta.microsoft.com has been having troubles meet the demand of the users who signed up for the download. From what we have heard, only a few of the users have actually gotten through with the download. Did you sign up for the CPP download? Let us know your experience in the comments below... | ||

| I got the download but I can't get back on to get the Product Key. It's my understanding that the Product Key is the same for all copies of RC1 - so if anyone has it, maybe they could post it here... |

I got the download e-mail yesterday. After about 30 minutes of trying to access the site, I managed to complete the registration process. Then the site went dead again. About 20 minutes later I managed to get the download started (which took 2-3 hours) and finished without problems. Eager to try Windows .NET Server, I left my senses behind me and installed it on a second partition WITHOUT GETTING A PRODUCT KEY :-(
When I realized my error, I went to another computer to try to access the website but it was completely down. I'm still waiting to get in and get the product key. |

Use XP File and Setting Transfer wizard to back up your app settings and files, then you could dump thm back on to .net. Not officially supported, but should be possible. Humor |

Does .NET Server have Windows Product Activation in the RC release, and is it expected to be part of the Final Release? Thanks :) TL |

No email yet, but I won't have time to work with it this week anyhow.
I did get an email for the Snapstream.NET Quartz beta, and have to install that tonight to see how it works. WOO HOO! Oh drat, that means I have to figure out the cable television problem in my townhouse. |

Heaven help us, it looks like the Windows XP RC1 Fiasco all over again :(
I'm staying the hell away from the MS Newsgroups for the next 2 months. 9 Billion posts entitled "Did anyone get their key yet" or "It says I've used up my alloted download attempts". Not good. TL |

| The last Beta had Product Activation on it, TechLarry. So I would imagine this does as well. I have had RC1 for a week but have not burnt it to a CD and tried it yet. |

Product Activation in an Enterprise level product.
That's going to go over well :) CEO "Why is our server down? We have a 10 million $$$ Deliverable due in 15 minutes". IT "Sorry, WPA kicked in when we changed xxxxxx, and we're on the phone with Microsoft obtaining permission to continue running the server we have $40,000 invested in" CEO "Ok, no problem. I understand." Of course, that last line is pure fantasy... TL |

| TL: Why in the hell would you not have volume licensing (which doesn't include WPA) if you've got $40,000 invested in a server? |
