After several months of intensive beta test, the most important service pack ever issued for Windows 2000 is at last available for download. The service pack 3 is a collection of bug fixes that addresses all the issues that were discovered since Windows 2000 shipped. This new Service Pack 3 also adds some new features like the ability to configure the middleware and an automatic updater. It's the real deal, however....
Microsoft historically places these files up on their download site for final testing. They may pull it at the last minute if they find an issue. Then after a few days they make an announcement on their website for it. Usually this occurs on a friday. I don't know why, I guess so that the initial swarm of downloads doesn't occur during a business day(?). Before installing this on any machine, wait until Microsoft announces it on their website. | The only major interface adjustment I've noticed so far is that it adds a button to the Add/Remove Programs window that allows you to remove IE, Outlook Express, Windows Media, Windows Messenger, etc. as the defaults apps in Windows. Part of the Anti-Trust agreement no doubt... |

Just slipstreamed SP3 with my original Win2k disc and burned a new one.

http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/ I've done this before, and it works great. Slipstream Win2k service pack into the install, build a new bootable CD. Even shows how to change the ini files to rip out the product key so you're not prompted for it.(wish you could do that with XP) |

The SP3 Support Tools exist because they are on the Premier Support Site (as is SP3). If you have Premier Support Access, you can get it there. If not, I highly suspect you will be able to get them tomorrow. TL |
