Microsoft releases Entourage conduit for Palm | |

At long last, Microsoft has released Microsoft Handheld Synchronization for Entourage X, which will enable users of Palm OS-based PDAs to exchange data with Entourage. The download is available from Microsoft's Web site now. Applicable only to Mac OS X, Office v. X and Palm OS 4.0, Microsoft Handheld Synchronization for Entourage X copies the contacts, tasks, notes and calendar events to and from your Palm-based PDA. Microsoft advised that before you can use this software, you must install the Service Release 1 update to Microsoft Office v. X. You must also have a Palm OS-based PDA running Palm OS 3.x or later. | ||

Yeah, I thought the customers had been bitching for months for it without no reply even though Palm and Apple had been working on it. Considering their's like a 98 to 2 ratio for Palm vs. PocketPC users on the Mac (just think about it--if you run Macs, why would you have a PocketPC?) -- of course, you didn't hear MS factoring this into poor Office sales even though it's been one of the biggest complaints.
Any of you out there running it?--I dropped into IE and was even using WMP for quite a bit last night for the first time in a long time as a test, and they are truly the most horrible apps available for OS X right now in my opinion. They both do lots of screen redrawing, do it incompletely, disappear content, and do even more bizarre things when resizing, and are the only apps that still beachball on me (besides Classic apps). If Office performs anywhere near as badly as they do... well, MS has nothing to complain about in terms of sales, but I would hope such a large app would function better than what I've seen with IE and WMP. |

Mr. Humpty--where is the Outlook conduit for Palm on Mac? I didn't see it anywhere there....
Sodajerk--sounds like both MS and Apple produce similarly for each other's platforms. QuickTime 5 behaves much the same way, with weird screen artifacts and generally flaky performance. Hopefully QT 6 will be better.... Office 98 and up have always been pretty stable on the Mac, though, in my experience. I haven't played much with OS X, though. A Mac guru friend of mine running X said he liked Office for X, but he was hoping to use Star Office 6 instead (I think mostly for spite, knowing him...). He did remark, though, that the email app that comes with X is a total dog (on his Titanium Powerbook)... he liked Entourage much better. |

| bluvg, QuickTime6 looks just as bad as ever. Apple should license to Microsoft the codecs that Windows Media Player doesn't already have and stop wasting its time writing bad client apps for Windows. |

bluvg, I'm aware that both companies have issues on the respective platforms when it comes to media, but IE sucks and seems to be getting worse and there's no reason for that. I only have IE and WMP on my machine to give Microsoft a chance and so people can't call me a hypocrite for deriding them... I am basically MS free on my Mac though. Yes, Office was fine, it did start as a Mac app after all, but MS seems to be doing a lousy time of developing for OS X so I was hoping to hear something solid from someone one way or the other. After all, they released it with thousands of bugs and I too had heard that Outlook was a dog. This post was edited by sodajerk on Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 19:51. |
