Image Entertainment Inc. (Nasdaq:DISK - news), a leading licensee and distributor of DVD programming in North America, today announced the Feb. 13, 2001 release of the classic television series ``The Howdy Doody Show.''
Image's four video compilations will feature sixteen of the most memorable episodes from the series. Included in the collection is the 1957 ``Easter'' special, the ``10th Anniversary'' show, the 1958 ``Halloween'' program and the final broadcast from Sept. 24, 1960 when Clarabell breaks a 13-year silence and utters the words ``good-bye kids!''
``The Howdy Doody Show'' was a groundbreaking pioneer of early television. The program began on NBC's six stations in 1947 and ran for 13 years, introducing children to the loveable characters Clarabell the Clown, Chief Thunderthud, Flubadub and Princess Summerfall Winterspring.
Show host, Buffalo Bob began each live broadcast with the question, ``Say, kids do you know what time it is?'' Children across America and in the crowded ``peanut gallery'' would shout their learned response: ``It's Howdy Doody time!''
