There's a flood of news stories out today breathlessly reporting that usage of Microsoft's Bing is growing at a rate of 25 percent and the new search engine is threatening Google's dominant market position. But other stories say it's losing market share.
So what's going on? Basically, Bing is taking over from Microsoft's other search properties, Live.com and MSN Search. So while there's some jockeying back and forth between the market-share numbers for Google, Yahoo, Microsoft's search properties and others, the bottom line is that the major players are largely holding fast to their market positions.
