Microsoft, the world's largest software company, is in final talks to buy Danish enterprise software firm Navision for $1.2 billion (820 million pounds), according to the Financial Times.
Navision shares soared by 23 percent on Tuesday as the company confirmed it was considering a possible "strategic transaction".
"The Board of Directors of Navision has decided to investigate the merits of any such transaction," the company said in a brief statement without naming Microsoft.
"Such investigations may or may not result in any agreement on a proposed transaction," Navision said, adding it had no further comment.
