Ferrago have posted a review of the THQ Snowboarding game, Dark Summit. They gave it a final score of 60%. Here is part of what they thought of it:
The game initially plays quite well. The trick system is well done and allows a large variety of tricks to be performed using combinations of buttons and directions. New players will find themselves accomplishing fairly complicated tricks swiftly. Each stage is huge and there are multiple routes down the mountain, giving a great sense of freedom. Challenges are initially fun, and the graphics sufficient to keep your interest. Problems arrive, however, after you begin to acclimatise to the game and begin to pursue points to reach the next level.
The main problem I found with the game is the courses themselves – they are too large. Let me qualify this. It is very nice to be able to board along pulling tricks and stunts and not worry about a loading screen for a good few minutes. That is the good aspect of the large levels; they let you experiment and give you plenty of time to find your feet. Later though, when you want to garner enough points to access higher lifts the large level size poses many problems. The early challenges (those higher up the mountain) are simple and swiftly done. The later challenges (which you have to do eventually) are much harder. It is very easy to fail them. And if you fail them, then you are condemned to finish the level to save whatever points you’ve already won in that particular run, and then try again. From the top. This was extremely annoying when I was scrounging up the last few needed points for lift access – time and again I’d fail certain tasks, and still be forced to finish the course to save what I’d done. I’d then find myself boarding along the top half of the course for the twentieth time with no challenges to do until I reached the bottom.
