Microsoft today (red. 10/23/2008) reported another record quarter result, exceeding $15 billion of revenue and $4.37 billion of profit. The company’s client business and especially Windows remains one of the strongest units, but the profitability took a big hit in the most recent quarter as Microsoft increased its investment in Windows advertising and research and development.
Microsoft said that it is able to present a “strong” quarter result in a “challenging economic environment”. In fact, with the exception of the Entertainment Services division, every business unit experienced revenue growth. However, the company’s Client business was surpassed by the Business Division as the most profitable unit within Microsoft in the firm’s fiscal Q1 and calendar Q3.
