Perhaps it's a sign of how desperate some sites are to get linked by the big aggregators, or perhaps it's a sign of how disappointed people are with Windows Vista—or both—but the endless stories about Windows 7's "official launch" are silly and (more importantly) quite misleading.
Let's set the record straight: there is no official "launch date" or "launch timeframe" for Windows 7. ("Official" in the context of Microsoft means publicly announced to shareholders, not an internal moving target). For the Windows team, there is a development timeframe that looks out over milestones, betas, and release candidates, but as you get further and further away from today, that framework becomes less and less clear. Milestone 2, for instance, is due by the end of May, but the betas and release candidates are all To Be Determined (last we saw).
