At its press conference in Hannover VIA has shown a Pentium 4 chipset for DDR400 for the first time. The demonstration was running on a prototype and did not last any longer than 30 seconds.
If DDR400 will ever become reality is very much the question after the controversial debate on DDR333, for details please do read this report. Still, VIA insisted on showing not only the P4X333 at the CeBIT. This chipset corresponds to the KT333 except for the CPU interface for a Pentium 4. Therefore technical data you may find in our review of the KT333.
The P4X400 was shown with Quake3 and it passed the demo run without any crash. After that VIA continued presenting other products and did not comment on the obtained result. But during tests in a VIA laboratory with a P4 at 2 GHz (Northwood core, GeForce3) it has reportedly been more than 270 FPS in the adjustment Fastest. A careful look at the demo mainboard and at another protoype later on after the presentation produced a strange labeling.
