Dead Rising’s imminent release got me thinking about this great industry, and it’s hard to believe that video games have been around for over thirty years now. Granted, the first round of electronic wizardry that is now common fare in millions of homes across the world wasn’t exactly the most mind blowing of experiences. Lights flashed, white square blobs moved around the screen, and manipulating those blobs passed for a good time back in the seventies (the abundance of acid and LSD probably didn’t hurt either). Fast-forward to present day, and the well of ideas for inventive video games appears to be all but dried up. With thousands of games coming out for each console during its given lifespan, it’s no wonder that we see so many rehashes and unoriginal ideas making their way onto game discs and eventually into our consoles. Now that we’ve entered into the most recent rendition of “next-generation” gaming, we expect to have new gameplay settings delivered to us with fresh ideas, all detailed by mind-blowing visuals. Sadly, the Xbox 360 audience is largely still waiting for a game of this nature to make its way into their consoles. Rest assured folks, the wait is now over.
