If your blood starts pumpin’ every time you hear Kenny Loggins’ Danger Zone on the radio, then consider yourself a wannabe flyboy. After seeing Top Gun I was convinced that the Navy was the right choice for my future. Too bad that whole 20-20 vision thing sidetracked my aerial career. Like millions of other folks that dreamt of “buzzing the tower” or “splashing MiGs”, I have to get my “need for speed” via video games. Yes, that was three Top Gun references in one sentence. Unfortunately Xbox gamers haven’t had much to choose from when it comes to flight combat, especially if you’re a fan of modern jet fighters. Don’t get me wrong, Crimson Skies is a fine air combat game, but it’s not the same as piloting an F-16. Airforce Delta Storm on the original Xbox had a good first showing (including flight stick support), but Konami never released a follow-up. Namco’s kickass Ace Combat unfortunately has remained primarily a Sony exclusive. Now that we’re officially into the high-definition era of the Xbox 360, is there any hope for the video game Mavericks of the world? Thanks to Ubisoft’s North American release of Over G Fighters, yes there is.
