Cultural bias towards Microsoft and Sony is not necessarily one the lead reasons why Microsoft flounders in Japan, according to several Japanese game developers. It is well known that Microsoft simply doesn't sell very many of its game consoles in Japan, which is home turf to Sony and Nintendo. One of the reasons that this could be the situation is that Microsoft isn't going through the correct channels when trying to advertise in Japan. If the company can begin to properly advertise the console and video games, it would be one step in the right direction. Because I am not a marketing guru in Japan, I will not specifically recommend how Microsoft should do it.
At a time when Microsoft has the only next-generation console available on the market, it would appear that it is the perfect time to strike. With Japan being the second biggest console market behind the United States, Microsoft definitely needs to get things turned around.
