Microsoft Corp. today announced the release of Service Pack 1 (SP1) for Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2000 Windows® CE Edition v1.1 (SQL Server CE). SP1 includes device platform updates, alternative storage capabilities and recent software updates that enable developers to easily extend enterprise applications to mobile devices using familiar SQL Server grammar and development tools.
The SP1 device platform updates guarantee mobile application developers access to the latest technology by providing support that enables them to build to the newest Windows CE-based platforms: Pocket PC 2002 and the Handheld PC 2000. The storage setup updates enable SQL Server CE to be configured to utilize less expensive storage, such as compact flash cards and microdrives, to store temporary databases used during complex processing. This prevents developers from running out of memory when creating temporary database files in which to store interim data during processing, queries and replication of large data sets. Main memory is now conserved for the main database file and application.
