Vialta, Inc., an emerging leader in digital multimedia and communications, announced today at the Consumer Electronics Show that it has introduced its Video Internet DVD (ViDVD(TM)) an innovative DVD player for media-rich content and hyperlinked interaction between Vialta's ViDVD and the Web and ViMedia(TM), Vialta's proprietary technology formatted discs that play on the ViDVD-enabled platform. The company plans to begin shipping ViDVD in April 2001.
Charles Root, VP of Marketing for Vialta, stated, ``ViDVD is a DVD player and much, much more. It plays DVD and VCD video, and CD and MP3 audio content. ViDVD uniquely offers Internet access through its built-in modem, and user navigational control with its remote keyboard. It also supports existing audio standards like Dolby®, DTS®, and MP3, and emerging ones like ViAudio(TM), a patented proprietary format. ViDVD will define the next-generation DVD player and with this, consumer adoption should become readily apparent. Combined with an offer of increased functionality and affordability, the ViDVD with its companion services, ViMedia, a content delivery solution and service on disc and through Web servers, and Vialta's destination site for support of unique display characteristics on the TV, the ViDVD player will change the use of the DVD player and TV in the home.''
The initial ViDVD product will be bundled with Vialta's ViMedia discs. The company noted that the ViDVD functions as:
- DVD/VCD/CD player
- MP3 player
- Karaoke player
- Internet access device
- ViMedia player
- ViAudio player
- Future supported Internet phone
- Future supported version will include video camera
