The PDC is just beginning to get underway, a formidable army from Microsoft head quarters in Redmond has descended upon Los Angeles, a squadron of elite network administrators has successfully executed the task of setting up a wireless network that can handle hundreds – indeed thousands of connections, and dozens of high level Microsoft employees have been seen walking the streets nervously rehearsing their presentations. And all the while thousands upon thousands of DVDs have been pressed with 30 gigs of the latest and greatest bits of Windows Vista and related technologies. Over the last few days a massive migration from across the globe has taken place-with developers and IT professionals flying in for the PDC.
Here’s what we know right now – there will be at least 7 major announcements coming out of PDC. 1) Windows Vista; 2) Office 12; 3) Sparkle; 4) Jolt; 5) Vista’s Sidebar; 6) Project M; and 7) Office 12's radical new UI. Looking beyond these 7 announcements there’s an impressive amount of work Microsoft is unveiling about the improvements their making to the fundamentals of the platform.
The fireworks don’t start until Tuesday morning. But be sure to watch the live Bill Gates keynote, and stay with Activewin throughout the week for up to the minute news and comprehensive coverage of what’s been unveiled and where Microsoft technical strategy is headed.
