When it was released in late 2001, Microsoft's first foray into the world of console gaming was met with more than a few raised eyebrows. The Xbox wasn't exactly a marvel of modern industrial design, a fact that haters were more than happy to point out. The system itself was big and boxy, looking more like an indestructible flight data recorder than a sleek piece of home electronics. Don't even get us started on the original controllers, which seemed to have been created with ovenmitt-wearing gamers in mind.
