We're all waiting to see for ourselves what Microsoft's fabled Longhorn is all about, but it seems that there’s more fantasy than reality in the officials’ statements regarding the future OS.
According to Scott Spanbauer, who has tested the 64-bit version of the latest code released to developers (Longhorn build 5048) for PC World, the OS has some impressive visual touches, including the kinds of translucent objects found now in Apple's OS X, and more advanced file searching capabilities. Yet, important breakthroughs in productivity are nowhere to be seen, and the promised features such as security improvements and smarter connections to handheld devices are still a myth.
