Company will hold off on some space
The Redmond City Council approved a plan early today that will allow Microsoft to add nearly 2 million square feet to its Redmond campus.
The 6-1 vote paves the way for the software company to make room for up to 12,000 more employees.
As part of the development agreement, Microsoft would hold back a portion of its proposed office space, pay 70 percent of the costs for a street overpass and help cover costs for a sewer project.
The company wants to build nearly 2.2 million square feet on its Redmond campus; of that, it won't build 216,340 square feet in order to accommodate other development in the area.
