Microsoft is set to release a Vietnamese version of Windows and Office as it takes aim at yet another developing country in Asia.
The localized versions of the Windows XP operating system and Office 2003 productivity software will make their debut later this month as part of a wide-ranging agreement inked between Microsoft and Vietnam's Ministry of Post and Telematics.
Besides introducing such local "language interface packs", the software giant will also embark on a series of community projects with local authorities to help raise computer literacy levels in the country.
"We’re helping to set up community learning centers to reach out to disadvantaged kids in Vietnam," said Saw Ken Whye, Microsoft's president for Southeast Asia.
