2005 is here at last, bringing with it the promise of a new year and an excuse for lazy entertainment writers everywhere to compile top-10 lists. Still fat and lethargic after the holidays, I fully intend to do the same before going back to the very serious business of reviewing video games. But when it comes to picking the top games of 2004, the task is a little harder than usual. Never before have so many long-awaited games been released in a single year, and never have they all appeared in the same overcrowded holiday season. With so much quality crowding shelves and screaming for gamers' attention, it's difficult to winnow down 20 of the best games, let alone 10.
