CD Freaks has done a review of Mad Dog's MD-16XDVD9 DVD writer. Based on the NEC ND-3500AG drive, Mad Dog's writer can write to DVD+R and DVD-R media at up to 16x, DVD+RW and DVD-RW media at up to 4x, DVD+R DL media at up to 4x, CD-R media at up to 48x, and CD-RW media at up to 24x. How does this drive stand up against the others? Is it worth putting on your Christmas list for Satan? Here's a snippet from the review:
Bitsetting support is definitely a positive feature and will help to produce discs that are compatible with a wide range of playback devices. We also really liked the ability to read DVD±R discs and data DVD-ROM discs at 16X speed. The writing quality on most DVD±R/RW discs is very good. We also appreciate the support for burning some 8X DVD±R discs at 16X, as well as some 4X DVD±R discs at 8X speeds; all with very good quality. The DVD+R9 DL support and writing abilities are excellent. The drive made very good quality DL discs that played back perfectly on all of our standalone players. The drive is also quieter at 16X than some other drives we have tested with.
