Here at GamePC, we've been following the progress of Microsoft's 64-bit Windows variants with a closer eye than most. We've seen Windows XP 64-bit Edition progress from a barely functional core operating system to the full-featured, release quality version which we're looking at today. The applications and drivers appeared to be solidifying, and Intel's recent announcement that their Xeon EMT64 processors would be compatible with the current builds of Microsoft's 64-bit Windows appeared as if it would be the final stepping stone before this major operating system release.
