Microsoft and Ravisent recently revealed that the Xbox will not feature DVD movie playback out of the box. Consumers interested in viewing DVD movies through the Xbox will have to purchase a separate remote control. According to Ravisent, its CineMaster DVD engine is optimized for the Xbox graphics processing unit and includes such features as a DVD navigation engine, a DVD presentation engine, an MPEG-2 video decoder, and Dolby Digital support.
