Events surrounding the advance of Linux in China grabbed the spotlight for a second time this week, as Oracle and Dell announced they will join forces to offer Linux-based Oracle software on Dell servers there. The threat to Microsoft's dominance appears real, as China and other Asian markets look to develop their own independent I.T. industries.
The Oracle/Dell initiative is thought to be a response both to customers who want cheaper systems and to the government of China, which has been trying to steer the country away from reliance on Microsoft Windows.
