When it comes to personal portable music players, there’s another revolution under way. The hot players now have no tapes, no compact discs and, indeed, no moving parts. The music is downloaded from the Internet, legally and not, or converted to a digital format from CDs. The flag-bearer for this latest sonic revolution is the iPod, a sleek white player the size of a deck of cards. It can store and play thousands of songs. For most of us, that means we can take our entire music collection wherever we go.
