When it comes to auto racing in America, there is nothing bigger than NASCAR racing. On the videogame circuit, many companies have the NASCAR license, but that’s only half the battle—you have to have a decent game to go with the license in order for the die hard fans in the rec.autos.simulators newsgroup to proclaim it a good game. Many have tried and some have failed. EA Sports has had the license for sometime now, and so has Papyrus. Both Papyrus and EA have made games for PC and PlayStation consoles. Hasbro Interactive released a PC game entitled NASCAR Heat sometime ago, and overall it was very well received, especially with it’s novel “Beat the Heat” situation mode. Times have changed. Hasbro Interactive is now Infogrames and we’ve progressed from the PlayStation to the PlayStation 2 and now Xbox. We’ve recently got our hands on NASCAR Heat 2002 for the Xbox (NHXBox) and in my very limited (say 12 hours or so) playtime, all I can say is…wow.
