Microsoft Corp. will run into fierce competition when it launches its online music service through MSN next year, but some industry experts think the company may have timed its entrance into the market just right.
Microsoft is mum on the details surrounding the forthcoming service and officials at MSN, the Redmond software company's Internet portal, declined to comment.
Microsoft appears to be a latecomer. Apple Computer Inc. launched its iTunes service in late April, and more than 17 million songs have been downloaded by owners of the iPod, a portable digital music player.
