Microsoft Corp. is sponsoring the third annual DigiGirlz High Tech Camp Aug. 11--14. The mission of the camp is to provide girls with valuable career information and hands-on training in information technology. This year, more than 60 local high school girls are expected to attend the DigiGirlz Camp and experience a world of career possibilities though tours, discussions and seminars.
The participants this year will engage in learning programs on topics such as graphic design, the Visual Basic® development system, Web scripting, interviewing and resume writing, and user interface design. The girls will also receive demos of the Xbox® video game system and MSN® Messenger, and overviews of initiatives such as Net Gen and Smart Personal Objects Technology (SPOT).
DigiGirlz from previous years have demonstrated a deeper connection to technology after completing the camp. DigiGirlz form relationships with role models, build increased confidence and develop new skills. Enrollment in the camp has increased this year from the previous two years, and six of the current Microsoft high school interns are former DigiGirlz.
