SEATTLE - Amid the public jousting in Oracle's hostile takeover bid for business-software maker PeopleSoft, the spoiler behind the scenes is actually Microsoft. Microsoft holds only a tiny percentage of the market for business applications software, but its influence looms large. The Redmond, Wash., software giant has vast resources and a demonstrated ability to come from behind and eventually dominate key technology markets.
