This article describes the results of a comprehensive series of benchmarks to document the relative performance and scalability characteristics of Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The benchmark focused on measuring the performance under load of a dynamic Web application created in both Microsoft Visual Basic 6, using ASP, and Microsoft Visual Basic .NET using ASP.NET. The application was the Nile application, which is based on the Ziff-Davis/Doculabs Application Server benchmark specification. Doculabs performed additional testing of the .NET implementation on both the .NET Framework 1.0 and 1.1 running on both Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. The code for both application implementations is available for download on MSDN.
