The VIA KT400A is the successor to the VIA KT400 which can be found on such powerful mainboards as the ABIT AT7-Max2 and the MSI KT4 Ultra. No surprises there, as plenty of us are using those boards. What may be surprising is this. The KT400A is a "spec" DDR400 part where the KT400 is not. This is what the VIA white paper states:
Through its FastStream64 technology, the VIA Apollo KT400A provides lightning fast access to system memory and can reach a peak bandwidth of 3.2GB/sec, 20% greater than the VIA Apollo KT400. The VIA Apollo KT400A supports a full range of DDR200/266/333/400 memory types, and is designed to maximize performance in both synchronous (DDR333/333MHz FSB) and asynchronous (DDR400/333MHz FSB) modes.
