The first time "Fulgore" hacked his Xbox, he had to use a soldering iron just to get the computer chip in that would let him play pirated games.
"It was fairly difficult," the 22-year-old college senior remembers, who prefers to go by his online name. He even helped a friend out - hacking his console because the friend was afraid of ruining his warranty.
But now Fulgore, who has hacked nearly every gaming machine, including Sony's PlayStation and Sega's Dreamcast, rarely bothers with the Xbox.
"It was a challenge early on because Microsoft supposedly put in so much security," said Fulgore. "But now it's pretty trivial."
